All mountain professionals need to be able to demonstrate that they are keeping their knowledge and skills up to date. We do this through continuing professional development. Health care professionals who hold the Diploma in Mountain Medicine or the International Diploma in Expedition Medicine must undertake relevant CPD if this forms part of their scope of practice. Other mountain professionals are required to keep up to date with their first aid skills and it can be useful to do this is a multi disciplinary group.
Our weekends have CPD points allocated by the Faculty of Pre Hospital Care of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. You will receive a certificate of attendance that lists the topics that have been included in the weekend.
We provide accommodation, catering and a program of instruction as described in the weekend brochure. We supply all teaching materials. We pay the registration fee for the accredited CPD.
We do not provide travel, personal insurance, personal clothing or equipment. We do not supply alcohol.
All those who have mountain medicine within their scope of practice must engage with CPD.
In 2024 the BMMS asked a group of experts to undertake a review of CPD and make some recommendations for Mountain Medicine CPD. These have been accepted by BMMS and the recommendations are on their website you can follow the link below.
